Amy Yao
Born in Los Angeles in 1977, the work of American artist Amy Yao is informed by ideas of waste and consumption, exploring consumerism, and identity, through the manufacturing process and “production” as both material and as a source for experimentation.
Yao holds a Bachelor degree from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and an MFA from Yale University.
Her work has been exhibited at galleries such as 47 Canal, Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, Andrew Kreps and Essex Street in New York; Galerie Chantal Crousel, Hannah Hoffman Gallery and Various Small Fires in Los Angeles; Rob Tufnell, Cologne; Misako & Rosen and XYZ collective in Tokyo as well as at institutions such as Swiss Institute, the Whitney Museum of American Art and MoMA PS1.
